Archers, also known as Bowfighters, are foot soldiers adept at striking their foes from afar using Bows. They were introduced in Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryū to Hikari no Ken and were compared to Hunters, another bow-wielding class which vied in competition with the Archer class.

From the class's first appearence, they have been able to promote into Snipers. In Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, Archers were also able to promote into Rangers. Archers, along with their promoted forms, Snipers are the only classes able to use Ballistae.
