The Red Knight
Cain is a character in Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (sometimes referred to as FEDS). He is one of the three cavaliers who the player recruits in the prologue. He comes shortly after his counterpart, Abel. He arrives as a messenger, bearing the news of the betrayal and murder of Marth's father by the nation of Gra. Once meeting Marth, he faithfully stays with him for the duration of the game.
Strengths and Talents
Cain is generally regarded as inferior to his counterparts Abel and Frey in FEDS, but he has his uses. He comes with higher strength and luck than Abel, but lower speed and skill. As a result of this, some players choose to swap his class to a myrmidon, as this makes up for his deficiencies in speed and skill with huge bonuses. A 20/20 Cain as a paladin can be expected to approach capping out all of his stats (although this may vary from player to player). All in all, he is (while probably the worst of the three early-game cavaliers) well worth training, and far superior to such units as Roshea, Jagen, Vyland, and Arron.

The Cain Archetype
Cain is the first in the Cain archetype (its counterpart is the Abel archetype) of the Fire Emblem games. Cains have red armor while Abels wear green. These characters are usually cavaliers recruited towards the beginning of the game. One will usually excel in attack and defense while falling somewhat short in speed and skill; the other will excel in speed and skill while being relatively weak offensively.
