Greil is the commander of the Greil Mercenaries and father of Ike and Mist. His wife, Elena was killed by his own hand when he touched Lehran's Medallion and went into a berserk rage. Greil wields his axe Urvan in combat, as after realizing what he had done, he cut the tendons in his arm so that he could never use a sword again. Greil was originally known as Gawain, and was one of Daein's Four Riders. He died fighting the Black Knight in a forest in Gallia, after refusing the blessed blade Ragnell and being unable to harm him.
