Ilyana is an underestimated character in both Fire emblem games. When finding her in the first, she is recruited after a bloody battle. She is always hungry, and enjoys anything but fighting. She begins a weak thunder mage, but is considered a highly experienced one if leveled correctly.

After the first game, Ilyana travels with the merchant company around the continent in seek of work. In the second she meets up with Micaiah and the Dawn Brigade in a jail cell that they were thrown in for no reason. In her starvation, she joins the team and gets her freedom back. Later, she then joins Ike again in order to stop the evil that may engulf Tellius. Though, it may only be for Oscar's cooking skills.
