Mercenaries, also known as Swordfighters, are swords for hire adept at using blades. They were introduced in Fire Emblem: Ankoku Ryū to Hikari no Ken and were able to promote into Heroes.

This class was missing from Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, presumably to avoid confusion between the class and the Greil Mercenaries.
