Supports, introduced in Fire Emblem: Monshō no Nazo are a gameplay feature where characters give bonuses to each other if they are close.
Initially, they were one-way and automatically initiated, but starting from Fire Emblem: Fūin no Tsurugi, supports must be built by making the supporting units end their turns next to each other and confirmed with a "support conversation" after the required number of turns have been met. They were also two-sided, giving bonuses to the unit who initiated the conversation and the recipient.
