The Thief is a character class in the Strategy Role-Playing-Game series, Fire Emblem. Characteristically fast, thieves have a great movement range for a non-mounted unit.

Skills
Lock Picking - The thief is identified but it's exclusive item, the lock pick. The lock pick allows any thief to open a locked door or safe. However, it's uses are limited.
Steal - A thief may also steal from an enemy unit he is adjacent to. A list of possible items is displayed, and the selected item is placed in the thief's inventory.
Stats
Vision Range - Theives have one of the largest vision ranges in the game, making them excellent scouts.
Movement Range - Thieves usually have an extremley broad range of movement. Often up to six spaces a turn.
Attack - Thieves have notoriously low attack, this leaves many players to aim for their thieves to avoid combat.
Speed - Thieves are blessed with an amzing speed, causing many enemy assaults to not garner a single hit.
Weapons
Thieves carry a sword.
Promotions
A thief can gain a promotion to an Assassin once level 10 has been achieved and a certain item has been obtained (a fell contract in Fire Emblem ). In Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones, the player has a choice of either Assassin or Rogue class.
