Vaike or Wyck in the Japanese version is a playable character in Fire Emblem: Awakening. He is voiced by Michael Sorich in the English version of the game, and Daisuke Endou in the Japanese version.
Vaike is an original member of the Shepherds lead by Prince Chrom. He is continually striving to better his fighting skills and considers himself to be Chrom's lifelong rival which leads to continuous challenges in order to prove his strength. Vaike's ambition is to become the toughest warrior in the world and so he enjoys any kind of fight, not just those with Chrom. In his support conversations with Cherche, he is caught trying to wrestle her wyvern. His support conversations also reveal that he may have had a very patchy life growing up until he found Emmeryn and joined the Shepherds. Since then Vaike became a fighter for the good of Ylisse. Despite his bragging about being an awesome fighter, he loses his axe on a regular basis.
Vaike is a very arrogant person who believes he excels at pretty much everything, particularly fighting. He claims he is the best warrior in the Shepherds group, and is always willing to prove it by challenging others. Most of the time he loses but still insists he is the best. Aside from being arrogant he also proves he is helpful, and has a strong willingness to fight and aid those in need. However, it is believed most of this may be for personal glory.
Vaike is first introduced in Fire Emblem: Awakening when Chrom and Lissa take the Avatar to meet the original members of the Shepherds. Before the start of Chapter 2: Shepherds, Vaike will run up late to join the battle, but he is without a weapon so he cannot fight. Miriel will then arrive with his found axe but she will need to speak to Vaike in order for him to retrieve it. Once his Bronze Axe is back in his possession, players can use him to fight for the first time. There is no actual need to recruit Vaike, as he will remain in Chrom's company after Chapter 2 unless he falls.
