Fire Emblem: Fates: Birthright is the second entry in Intelligent Systems' strategy RPG series along with Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest and Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation, developed specifically for the 3DS handheld. The title continues to draw upon gameplay series staples including grid based movement and ranges, player units all being unique characters with different classes including pegasi riders and myrmidons, and a weapon trinity. Adjacent player units can also support one another in during combat.

The setting of this Fire Emblem title is a world where two kingdoms are at odds with one another: the Hoshido who are inspired heavily by feudal Japanese military forces, and Nohr who adopt a more traditional medieval western fantasy theme. The player character is a mysterious individual born in Hoshido but raised in Nohr, with the ability to shapeshift into a dragon. The player avatar him/herself is the main character of the game, recruiting an army and building a customizable base of operations. The player will be forced to ally with one of the two kingdoms at a crucial point in the game, and this determines how the story unfolds and how other characters will react to the player from that point on.

[edit] Plot

Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright has its plot focusing on the story of the Avatar, who joins the Kingdom of Hoshido to pledge loyalty to the kingdom before fighting against the royal family that raised him/her in the kingdom of Nohr to take down King Garon.

[edit] New features

  • Katana, Naginata, Yumi, Shuriken and Rod added to new weapons.
  • Units have been split into two with half of them appearing in Birthright while the other half appearing in Fire Emblem Fates: Conquest. However, 8 units are not version-exclusive and are always playable, regardless of version. Fire Emblem: Revelation contains all units.
  • All royal family units, along with the Avatar can now use the ability Dragon Vein, which allows them to change the terrain at specific locations during battles.
  • Phoenix Mode is introduced; which revives the player's fallen units on the next turn.
  • The Weapon Triangle is now Sword & Magic > Axe & Bow > Lance & Shuriken > Sword & Magic.
  • My Castle allows players to build their own fort that is used for collecting resources, battling other players via StreetPass or Internet and purchasing items at shops, also replacing Fire Emblem: Awakening's Barracks.

The following pages are main and side chapters found in Fire Emblem Fates: Birthright.
