Herons are a Laguz race from the Serenes Forest; they appear in both Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn. Only the royal herons possess white wings and golden hair, while others have bluer or browner wings. The Herons are the only living creatures able to sing the ancient verse of Galdrar which sealed away the Demon King long ago. Galdrar can also be used to grant allied units another turn, among other skills.

The Heron Tribe was wrongfully blamed for the assassination of Begnion's apostle, Misaha, when the Senate of Begnion assassinated her. The Herons, though unable to fight, were pinned for the blame and Begnion citizens lit fire to the Serenes Forest, the home of the Herons, in anger. Only the royal family exists, leaving the entirety of the tribe almost completely extinct. After the burning of their home, Tibarn and Naesala, kings of the hawks and ravens respectively, took them into their care until the restoration of the forest.

In Path of Radiance, the Heron prince, Reyson, and the Heron princess, Leanne, use Galdrar to revive the Serenes Forest, as well as return the Dragon prince Rajaion's mind back to normal after he is used as one of the Feral Ones by the Mad King Ashnard.

Leanne, Reyson, Rafiel, and Lorazieh are the only living Herons after the Serenes Massacre. Rafiel, however, appears only in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn.

The only other living Heron laguz is the prime minister of Begnion, Sephiran. His union with Altina, however, resulted in him losing his laguz abilities, and also leaving behind his old name, Lehran.

[edit] Heron Units

All three usable Herons acquire the same skills via Galdrar. To obtain further Galdrars, a Heron must level up. A heron has access to: Vigor, Bliss, Sorrow, Valor, and Recover to aid their friends on the battle field. Vigor will grant an allied unit another turn. Bliss will automatically boost any Biorhythm to "best". Sorrow will lower an enemy's Biorhythm to "worst". Valor will fill up a Laguz's gauge, and Recover will fully heal an allied unit. Herons can only use Galdrar as opposed to physically fighting.

  • Reyson (playable in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn) - Reyson is the most durable of the three Herons, but is limited to only targeting one unit pre-shift. He has access to Canto and can fly the farthest.
  • Rafiel (playable only in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn) - Rafiel is the least durable of the three herons and lacks the ability to fly. He can, however, use Galdrar on all four adjacent units regardless of whether or not he is currently shifted.
  • Leanne (NPC in Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance and playable in Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn) - Leanne is slightly more durable than Rafiel, but can only sing Galdrar to two units, front or back or left to right, regardless of whether or not she is currently shifted. She can fly and also has Canto.
